Kate Bornstein uses the phrase “A Third Space” to label a space both in life and in theater for members of any “borderline community or non-community” that are discouraged by the dominant culture. She explains, “It would include anyone who falls through the cracks of the cultural floorboards; it would include anyone who challenges the cultural binary; it would include any one who is Other.” Kate’s vision, whether spiritual, figurative, or literal is a compelling one, however, as well as this reference, the phrase, for us, refers specifically to Feminism. It is our hope that this will be a space for Third Wave commentary on modern affairs.
As an answer, perhaps, to the first waves of Feminism, Third Wave Feminism embraces difference and encourages a dialogue that provides a space for change. A Third Space is a place for criticism and empowerment. We hope to have a full blog including social, political and personal pieces as well as interviews with local Feminists.
